I’ve spent many years trying to build something out of nothing. Starting with practically nothing, and working hard to establish one’s presence and make an impact, you sooner or later realize that life is such an exhausting chore.
Then, one day, you arrive in Paris, and you realize that everything that needed to be done has already been done, and everything that needed to be built has already been built. There is really no need to exert oneself, other than to make oneself present and available for enjoying this city of gods.
It is only in Paris that I found this divine ease of living.
